This shirt is a variation on the Italian Men's Renaissance Shirt. James wanted the baggy shirt, but prefered lace up cuffs on the sleeves, lacing up the front and a large fold-down collar. I borrowed the collar from another pattern and made it 2" longer and wider. I created a facing for the front of the shirt and the pattern for the cuffs. There are 28 hand-stitched eyelets on this shirt. It is made from the same wine colored dupioni silk with which I have lined some of my bodices.
The costumes on this page are custom pieces that I have made for friends. There are some pieces that I have lined up to make, but still need some supplies before those projects will be started. I will do custom work for others, my rates are listed on the Pieces for Sale page.
As I get new pieces made and photographed I will get them posted here.
This cloak, also made for James, is modified from a Kinsale cloak pattern. James wanted a full capelette along with the hood and wanted it all sewn into the collar. There is a slit up the back of the cape to allow his rapier to travel easier, as well as arm holes through the main cape that are hidden by the capelette.
This piece is made from 100% wool flannel and lined with 100% silk. It was a monster to deal with and complete it weighs around 10-15 lbs.
Kate and Joe were in need of their first renfaire costumes. Early on, Kate picked up one of my side and front lacing reversible bodices, worn here with the grey silk side to the outside. She had also picked up a dark blue wench's blouse, but had me make her another (shown here) of a light blue cotton gauze. She provided the fabric for the under and over skirts which I made without a pattern, simply using a couple of measurements taken from her. The overskirt is split in the front.
Joe's pants were my first attempt to make pants without a pattern, simply using some measurements and the directions from a Renaissance magazine. Well, the magazine directions left somewhat to be desird and I am going to have to go back and take up some of the slack in the pants.
